ITEKMA materials at the new pilot production facility of PJSC UAC

3 Apr 2018

The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and INUMiT (a founding partner of the Chemistry Department of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov) have begun producing composite material assemblies for the aircraft industry using domestically produced raw materials at a new pilot production facility in Voronezh, UAC announced. ITEKMA will supply the raw materials for the project.

According to UAC Technical Director Yuri Tarasov, testing of the SSJ100 civilian airliner with horizontal sabre-shaped wingtips has begun. Tooling for the SSJ100 winglets is being manufactured in Voronezh; the use of the winglets helps reduce fuel consumption and save up to 5 million rubles per aircraft annually. Moscow State University scientists, together with ITEKMA, have developed materials for tooling used to manufacture composite parts for the SSJ100 and MS-21 civilian airliners, as well as nacelles for the new domestic PD-14 engine. Particular attention is being paid to high-quality polymer binders for a wide range of temperatures from -100 to +450°C, prepregs , carbon fabrics, and tapes .

In Voronezh, UAC and the United Engine Corporation (UEC) are creating a new competence center for the production of nacelles for all types of domestic civil and transport aircraft engines.

"The share of composites in the SSJ100 exceeds 12%, and in the MS-21, it's a third. We are interested in expanding the use of domestic composite technologies while maintaining high, consistent quality and cost parameters," Tarasov said in the statement.

As Viktor Avdeev, CEO of INUMiT, reported, last year Moscow State University Rector Viktor Sadovnichy, INUMiT, and Alexey Rogozin, CEO of PJSC Il, signed a strategic cooperation agreement.
